The Peperbus Zwolle
With a height of 75 meters, the Peperbus Zwolle rises far above the skyline of Zwolle. Construction of the Peperbus Zwolle probably began as early as the 15th century. When a fire destroyed the cap in 1815, a new copper cap was put on it in 1828. This gave rise to the name: Peperbus. Meanwhile, the Peperbus is the eyecatcher of the Hanseatic city.
The tower of the Peperbus is part of the Onze Lieve Vrouwe basilica. The church was built in the late Middle Ages. The construction consisted of four phases. The first phase took place as early as 1399. The second phase took place between 1400 and 1417. The third phase was completed in 1454. In the fourth phase, between 1463 and 1483, a tower was added to the church. This tower is today called the Peperbus.

In summer (April 1 to November 1), the Basilica is open from Tuesday to Saturday. On Tuesdays the opening hours are 1:30 to 4:30 pm. From Wednesday through Saturday, the basilica is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In winter (November 1 to April 1), the basilica is open from Monday to Friday between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. On Saturdays, the church is open for tours between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
On Sundays and holidays, the tower is closed for viewings. In addition, opening hours may vary due to a funeral or organ tuning. Check the website of the Peperbus for current opening hours.
The entrance fee to climb the Peperbus in Zwolle is €3.50 for adults. For children up to twelve years old, you pay €2. Children up to four years old have free entrance. It is important to know that children up to twelve years of age can only climb the Peperbus Zwolle when accompanied.
