Flood Disaster Zwolle

The 1953 flood disaster does not stand alone. Water runs like a thread through Dutch history. Many places and regions have their own flood story. Whether or not as a result of climate change. In addition to the series, NTR, in cooperation with NOS, is therefore launching the podwalk app Het water komt: seven GPS-controlled audio tours with stories about cities and villages where violent flood disasters have occurred: Marken, Dordrecht, Valkenburg, Zwolle, Nijmegen, Oude-Tonge and Amsterdam Tuindorp-Oostzaan.

In Zwolle you can fully enjoy the water. Sail a boat through the canals or settle down along one of the waterside terraces. But this Hanseatic city has had a love-hate relationship with water for centuries. The city is surrounded by water, which on the one hand provides a lot of wealth, but also a lot of threat. How the region finally managed to contain that threat, and how the people of Zwolle have still not given up in their battle against the water: you will hear about it in this Podwalk.
