Museum de Fundatie

Blijmarkt 20 8011NE Zwolle

Museum de Fundatie owns and manages an extensive collection of visual arts. Collection and exhibitions can be seen at two locations: Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle and Kasteel het Nijenhuis with sculpture garden near Heino.

Museum de Fundatie is housed in a neoclassical building on the Blijmarkt in Zwolle. Striking and really characteristic of this building is the unusual roof. If you walk from the station to the center of Zwolle, the so-called 'cloud' of Fundatie Zwolle catches your eye. Eduard Louis de Coninck designed the building in 1838 and it subsequently served as the Palace of Justice. In 2004 the Palace was converted into an art museum to a design by architect Gunnar Daan. Since June 2005 the Palace, together with Castle Het Nijenhuis, forms Museum de Fundatie.

Van Gogh, Picasso and Mondrian

Museum de Fundatie manages a large and diverse collection of visual arts that can be admired at the two locations mentioned above. The collection now consists of over 11,000 objects! The permanent collection of Museum de Fundatie was mainly assembled by collector Dirk Hannema, former director of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen. Also world famous works of for example Van Gogh, Picasso and Mondriaan can be admired at the Fundatie Zwolle.

Changing exhibitions at the Fundatie Zwolle

Unique to Fundatie Zwolle is that in addition to a permanent collection also the changing exhibitions are given a stage. So you get the chance to visit this special museum in Zwolle several times a year and discover new works. Tip: from the cloud of Fundatie Zwolle you have a beautiful view over the city. Museum de Fundatie is undoubtedly one of the best highlights of Zwolle. A visit to this museum is therefore easy to combine with, for example, weekend in Zwolle

Castle the Nijenhuis

The other location of Museum de Fundatie, Kasteel het Nijenhuis, is also highly recommended. The castle is located between the villages of Heino and Wijhe and is one of the best preserved havezates in Overijssel. The history of Castle het Nijenhuis goes all the way back to the late Middle Ages.
