5Zwolse Balletjes
This artisanal candy is made of sugar dough. Balletje is also another word for candy, which is where the name 'Zwolse Balletjes' comes from. The first ones were made by the stitcher from cane sugar since there was no sugar beet grown in the Netherlands yet. After the arrival of sugar beets (granulated sugar), various flavors were added: mocha, cinnamon, vanilla and later also various fruit flavors.
