Park Het Engelse Werk in Zwolle

Park Het Engelse Werk in Zwolle was built in 1830 on a former fortification and is therefore the oldest park in Zwolle. The park is now even a national monument. Have you been there?

You will find many wonderful parks in Zwolle to wander around, picnic, exercise or just to clear your head. The English Work Zwolle is one of them. The park sits on the outskirts of Zwolle, namely along the floodplains of the IJssel. From the center of Zwolle you can cycle to the park in about ten minutes.

Both summer and winter it is lovely to stay in the English Work. Find the sun (or the shade) in summer and in winter you can play in the snow and if it freezes you can even skate. Throughout the park you will find water. Tip: on a clear day you have a beautiful sunset over the floodplains of the IJssel.

The Spoolderbos connects Het Engelse Werk Zwolle with the center of the Hanseatic city. The forest was created in 1980 to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Zwolle's city rights. Many Zwolle citizens helped to finance it by buying and planting a plant or tree.

Because the Spoolderbos is so close to Het Engelse Werk park, you can easily combine the two areas in one walk. Take the kids with you or take the dog for a walk. Discover the area on your own or choose a walking route.

In the early 19th century the area became the property of the municipality of Zwolle. It was decided to make it a walking area. In the design, an English style was applied and therefore the park was named: The English Work. To date, it is one of the most popular parks in Zwolle for a nice walk.

Go out and explore Het Engelse Werk Zwolle yourself. From several places you can walk into the park. You can easily park your car at Uitspanning Het Engelse Werk. Here you can start with a cup of coffee. Of course you can also end here for a well-deserved lunch. Or both!

You can walk through Het Engelse Werk on your own, but there are also plenty of walking routes. With a search for all walking routes in The English Work, you'll find a few already. How about a walking route from Route.nl? The walk leads you along the floodplains of the IJssel. The walk starts and ends at Landwinkel en Theetuin De Huppe. A good reason to start and end the walk with a delicious juice.

Water company Vitens also put together a wonderful walk, which was transferred to IVN in 2020. The walk also goes through the water catchment area of The English Work. The walking route takes you past several historical sites. This way you not only see the beautiful nature, but you also learn new things.

Also, a walk through The English Work via Routeyou takes you on a walk through the park. The route of 13.6 kilometers, however, not only goes through the English Work, but you also walk a bit through the city and come to many other places of Zwolle.

Restaurant Het Engelse Werk

After a visit to Park Het Engelse Werk you can go to Restaurant Het Engelse Werk. The restaurant is located right next to the park and is therefore easy to reach. The restaurant also has parking spaces. Here you can easily park if you want to walk through The English Work Zwolle.

Take a seat in the restaurant Uitspanning Het Engelse Werk for a delicious lunch or dinner. Also for a small snack you're in the right place. So treat yourself after a walk or just lay a good foundation before the walk begins. Is the weather nice? Then take a seat outside on the picnic benches.

In the weekend there is a cozy atmosphere around the restaurant. Families go for a walk with their dogs and many people go out on their bikes. Will you be here soon?
